Watch the Gunite Pool Building Process—From Start to Finish

Building a custom inground gunite pool is an exciting journey, but it’s also one that requires time, precision, and expert craftsmanship. While the average project takes approximately 6-8 weeks from excavation to completion, homeowners are often curious about what to expect at each stage of the pool building process.

If you’re considering adding a gunite pool to your property, we’ve created a time-lapse video that captures the entire process from start to finish. In just a few minutes, you can watch weeks of planning and construction unfold as we transform one of our customer’s backyards into a stunning custom oasis.

Key Stages of Gunite Pool Construction

As with most construction projects, the first step in building a custom gunite pool is the design and permitting process. At this stage—which typically takes 1-4 weeks (but sometimes more depending upon the requirements and backlog with the town permitting process)—your vision will become a blueprint, and our design team will finalize the plans and secure permits before any digging begins.

The video below starts with the second step: excavation. For one or two days, the pool’s shape takes form as the ground is dug out and prepared. In the video, you can observe the next steps:

  • Steel Reinforcement (1-3 Days). A steel rebar framework is installed, creating the “skeleton” that gives the pool strength.
  • Plumbing & Electrical (3-5 Days). Pipes, drains, and electrical conduits for lighting and automation are carefully placed before the shell is applied.
  • Gunite Application & Curing (1–2 Days + 7–10 Days Curing). The gunite (a concrete blend) is sprayed to form the pool shell, which then cures to ensure durability.
  • Tile, Coping & Decking (1–3 Weeks). Custom finishes start bringing your design to life. The pool’s edge, surrounding deck, and chosen materials are installed.
  • Interior Finish & Startup (1 Week). Plaster, pebble, or quartz finishes are applied, water is added, and the system is balanced—then it’s time to swim!

While most pools are completed within the 6–8-week timeframe, factors such as weather delays, permit processing, custom features, and material availability may influence the schedule.
